It might be in middle of festival season but it hasn’t stopped some truly brilliant releases coming from bands left, right and centre. Some of very fresh off the press. Today HammerFall release their duly anticipated album Dominion and Twilight have unleashed Dawn Of The Dragonstar, so a song from each of these albums are part of this edition of the playlist. Also fresh off the press today are singles from Freedom Call, Liv Sin and Leaves’ Eyes so listen out for those.
Over the past couple of weeks we seen album releases from Slipknot and Sellsword. Elvenking, Steel Panther, Crashdiet, Sascha Paeth’s Master Of Ceremonies, The Ferrymen and The 69 Eyes have released singles over the past couple of weeks.
Dimmu Borgir and Amorphis announced a co headline tour so there are songs from both bands on the list. Grand Magus recently revealed they have a UK tour coming up in 2020.
There are a few musicians who have birthdays recently so classic songs from their respective bands are on the list. Bands include Blind Guardian, Beast In Black and the mighty Iron Maiden.
It’s been a year since the passing of Jill Janus so to mark this, a Huntress classic is on this edition. I had the pleasure of interviewing her and she really was an inspiration. It’s no secret that mental illness is a cruel mistress that does not discriminate. If you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, remember that you are valid and don’t suffer in silence.
Most of us know that twelve years ago, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were brutally attacked by a gang of teenagers. Sophie eventually died from the injuries she had sustained. This tragic event led to a lasting legacy as tributes to Sophie still pour in and the charity set up in her name is still working wonders for the alternative community. So it only seems fitting to place the iconic song We Are The Others at the end of the playlist in dedication to Sophie’s memory. When listening to this, also remember to take pride in who you are and that you are not alone.
