Welcome to the first playlist of 2025. I can’t believe it’s been five years since the dreaded ’Rona, but so much has happened since then, with tours now thriving and new music being released every week. Here’s what’s in store for the first part of 2025.
First up, there are a few new albums to check out in the power metal and death metal world, the first coming from Swedish melodic death metal supergroup THE HALO EFFECT. THE HALO EFFECT have made a fast impact with their brand of Swedish death metal, and with singles like March of the Unheard and Cruel Perception, it’s not hard to see why. March of the Unheard is out now.
Elsewhere, we have a new offering from DRAGONKNIGHT, which will appeal to classic power metal fans; and a new album from TREMONTI of ALTER BRIDGE fame: The End Will Show Us How.
There are also several singles which make for a promising start to 2025, including Luna by ELVENKING, Give Us the Moon by THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, A Story in the Night by MAJESTICA, and my favourite, Against the Wind by AVANTASIA featuring Kenny Leckremo. This is a real treat for fans of the classic AVANTASIA power metal sound, with plenty of blast beats and classic, Rob Halford-esque vocals. Like AVANTASIA, DYNAZTY also have a new single out – Call of the Night – ahead of their new album release.
Finally, there are a couple of birthdays to celebrate, including the legendary Till Lindemann from RAMMSTEIN, Dave Grohl from FOO FIGHTERS, Rob Zombie, Mykur, and Jimmy Page and the late John Paul Jones from LED ZEPPELIN.
