ROCK OUT STAND OUT PLAYLIST – JUNE 2023 PRIDE HISTORY MONTH

Happy Pride Month to you all. This month celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and the songs about different aspects of it.

As many of you know, the message of Rock Out Stand Out is to stand out and be yourself whilst rocking out. The songs on this playlist reflect the real-life experiences of our favourite musicians exploring their sexuality without limitations.

The first song I wanted to touch on is HALESTORM’S, Do Not Disturb. Based on a true story, Do Not Disturb struck a chord with fans of the LGBTQ+ community. Rock icon Lzzy Hale has spoken in depth about the story behind the controversial song that openly explores a bisexual relationship, saying, “I had a lot of fun with a man and a woman a few years ago on this amazing tour overseas…it was just this freeing moment.”

Another band who are popular amongst the LGBTQ+ community are LORD OF THE LOST. After representing Germany in Eurovision this year, LORD OF THE LOST is another band that openly talks about sex and free love in their music. noituLOVer is a song that celebrates being you but also explores the problem of prejudice against marginalised groups in society.

The last song I wanted to shed some light on is Share/Care by NEGATORY EFFECT. This song explores the uniquely wonderful prospect of polyamory and what it’s like to be in love with more than one person. Members Jethro and Lokisson explain more details about this particular track when they spoke to Rock Out Stand Out earlier this year, click here to read the full interview.

This playlist also features fallen LGBTQIA+ icons; whilst they are sadly no longer with us, the legacy they leave behind is incredible. These include David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Pete Shelley and Sean Reinert; songs from their respective bands can be found on the playlist.

That’s it for this week, for more songs by musicians in the LGBTQIA+ community plus others about different aspects of being in the community, check out the full playlist below!
