WORDS FROM THE TEAM: Lotty’s Album Of The Month August 2023

Peyton Parrish – The Most Magical Album On Earth

Every year to honour the passing of Sophie Lancaster, the theme of August’s album of the month is music that encourages you to be proud to be you. So many albums have helped me with this and one recently came across my radar. Whilst I was familiar with the works of Peyton Parrish, his two recent releases were the first ones I have sat and listened to. The one I have picked is his Disney album.

Like a lot of people, I grew up with Disney; for me, it was the songs that have stayed with me throughout and to hear them done in this style was fantastic. This record contains covers of well known classics such as A Whole New World, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and Let It Go (whether you love it, hate it or indifferent to it). It also displays renditions of treasured gems such as Go The Distance, Colours Of The Wind and my personal favourite Son Of Man.

Before I give my final thoughts, I would like to delve into my favourites. Colours Of The Wind is a powerful song about seeing things from someone else’s perspective and the rock rendition brings out that power even more. Son Of Man has been a consistent song throughout my life, Tarzan was the first film I saw at the cinema and that song has always stayed with so it was wonderful hearing a heavier cover of this song. The cover of The Lion Sleeps Tonight was also great fun.

So far, I have trying things out of my comfort zone and starting to embrace my true, authentic self. I have felt so much better for this and this album encourages me to carry on doing this.
