WORDS FROM THE TEAM: Lotty’s Album and Song Of the Month – Jan 2026

A new year has started and for me, it means a fresh new start. It’s been a little while since I have written one of these posts and this year, I decided to mix it up a bit. Here’s my choices for album and song of the month.

Album Of The Month:  Versengold – Eingernordet

This is the first time in a long time that I have felt well enough to write an album of the month post, and this album is the perfect one to start the year with.

German Folk Rock always seems to be the thing that lifts me up and helps me regain my motivation; the latest band to do this for me is VERSENGOLD, and I have had their latest album Eingernordet on loop since it was released. I came across VERSENGOLD a couple of years ago and was intrigued by their sound; the singles for this album piqued my curiosity instantly and, well, I’m writing about it here, so it had an amazing impact.

It starts off with Der Tag mag kommen that gives you only a small taste of what the rest of the album is all about. Well put together tunes that boost your morale within seconds. It starts off very gently before hitting you with its folky greatness. It’s hard to pick an absolute favorite on this as they all have an important place on the album; there are no fillers here; each song is pure folk rock greatness, not to mention some of the best earworms.

If I were to pick a few examples of what I mean; the songs I would pick are Eingenordort, Krug voll Mondenschein, and Klopapier. The moment Eingenordort started playing, I felt that sense of empowerment instantly; the thumping beats and the powerful melody work in sync so well together to create what is no doubt an anthem at live shows. Krug voll Mondenschein is a beautiful ballad that gives you the space to reflect and take stock of what is going on. Klopapier is a great, straightforward melody that will be in your head for days.

I am currently going through two hugely tough things at the moment, and this album has been one of those beacons of hope that have got me through it. It provides joy, wonder, and hope—some important things that we all need right now.

Song Of The Month:  Eye of Melian – Tears of the Dragon

I have come across a fair few brilliant songs this month that have reinvigorated my motivation to write about music again. One that popped up a lot was EYE OF MELIAN’s latest cover of Bruce Dickinson’s Tears of the Dragon. EYE OF MELIAN have already intrigued me with their ethereal sound that draws you in, and this cover is a wonderful example. The way it starts off reminds me of a Danny Elfman piece in a Tim Burton classic; Edward Scissorhands comes to mind strongly. From this point, the track builds and builds triumphantly; it takes your breath away, and this track deserves your undivided attention. This song also gave me hope, especially the lyric “release the wave and let it wash over me”. This, alongside the other spellbinding singles, is off their upcoming album Forest of Forgetting, and if they’re anything to go by, I am looking forward to the album release.
