Facing The Gallows, National Wacken Metal Battle Champions from South Africa, bring back the early days of Metalcore and present their new and fourth video single. Lyrically the song ‘Virginia‘ is about dealing with loss. Named after James’ (guitarist) mother Virginia who passed away, the message is about dealing with that experience on a personal level and in part the isolation that comes with it. It transitions between the darkness you have emotionally dealt with everything but then the second half of the song changes on to coping with it all and learning to carry on. The video is reflecting the isolated aspect of the lyrics. The message of the song shouldn’t be lost, and the band planned every shot to keep everything focused on the performance and emotion.
Facing The Gallows state about the new song:
“We’re always trying to evolve and do things differently. Stepping out of our comfort zone and offer something fresh to our audience. We also want to share some of the history of the band and the relationship that we have with all members current and previous. Revealing the FTG Family that exists behind the scenes. We re-recorded ‘Virginia’ to showcase all of this, the first half of the song is stripped down to just clean singing and two acoustic guitars with Chase and James performing. Which has the raw and core emotion of the song, something completely different to anything that we’re known for. Bridging between the first half into the second, Ricki (previous guitarist) performs his feature in the song with a solo which opens up to the band at full steam with Bryan Binneman (previous vocalist) collaborating on vocals with Reegan. Having every member part of this just shows the bigger picture and vision that the band has. We’re all still best friends and everyone supports what the band is doing. It’s really special that we can all share in all of this and show the world something deeper to the band that isn’t just breakdowns and riffs.”
It’s bittersweet since it’s inspired by a life-changing moment, but it’s to commemorate the memory of someone special and have them live on through the song.
“It’s also important to us that the meaning of the song will connect with anyone who’s experienced and relates to the same message. It’s hard to deal with losing anyone, especially if you feel that you’re going through it on your own. There’s a saying that you never stop missing those you’ve lost, you just get used to them not being around. But you’re not alone, everyone has and will deal with this at some point in their lives. It’s important to share what’s going on and to remember that their memory lives on through you.”– Facing The Gallows
