Italian legendary heavy metallers SCALA MERCALLI, active since 1992, have released a new lyric video for ‘Honest Brigands’, taken from the band’s latest album ‘Independence’.
The song tells about when, between the early 1800s and shortly after the unification of Italy in 1861, there were men and women who fought only to defend the population of their land from the injustices of the powerful local lords. Supported by the various governments that followed one another, from the Bourbon Viceroys, to the Savoy monarchs, to the foreign occupiers who unjustly exploited their people. Many former Garibaldi soldiers who fought for the unification of Italy joined them, betrayed by the new state that did not integrate them, as promised, into the new Italian army. These people were unjustly called Brigands, as if they were thieves and assassins, which in reality they were not. Giuseppe Garibaldi also said about these brave men: “An Honest Brigand is my ideal”.
The Band declares:
“Each historical period must be addressed by looking at it from all possible points of view, so that you can have the most truthful idea possible. As in this case where we wanted to give space to characters that have not been understood, in our opinion, in the most complete way. The line that divides the so-called good from the bad is not as clear and easy to understand as many times you think.”
