Most of you may know it’s World Mental Health Awareness Day. During these times, it’s more important than ever to speak about our mental health and be honest with how things are. Big or small, each struggle and fight is important.
To honour this day, a playlist of songs has been placed together. There are songs by or in tribute to musicians who died by suicide, depict what it’s like to live with ill mental health and lift your spirits during a period of ill mental health. Some of the songs were those picked by Rock Out Stand Out readers for Lotty’s podcast in honour of Mental Health Awareness Month in May. The podcast link can be found here.
The songs by artists who died by suicide include Chester Bennington (LINKIN’ PARK), Kurt Cobain (NIRVANA), Jill Janus (HUNTRESS), Keith Flint (THE PRODIGY) and Chris Cornell. There is also a vocal tribute to AVICII from THE LOUNGE KITTENS.
Songs depicting mental illness come from AD INFINITUM, LORD OF THE LOST, CONTROL THE STORM, HEIDEVOLK, John Mayer and MASSIVE WAGONS. Uplifting tones come from SHINEDOWN, KISSIN’ DYNAMITE, BROTHERS OF METAL, EDGUY, HULKOFF and FREEDOM CALL.
Hope this list provides you with what you need. Take care of yourselves and remember it’s OK not to be OK.
