ALBUM REVIEW: Sinheresy – Event Horizon

Even though SINHERESY have been around since 2009, this is my first experience of them and after listening to the delights from their latest offering Event Horizon, I will be coming back for more. Given the vast content this album offers up, it gets one of my rare track-by-track reviews.

It wastes no time opening with The Calling. First impressions of this sound; if AMARANTHE and SERENITY had a love child, this track would give you a rough idea on what that would sound like. This gave me the first glimpse of the vocal power between Cecilia Petrini and Stefano Sain. The melody is very uplifting and motivating, you feel like you can overcome anything that comes your way. This track was written in loving memory of a passionate stargazer.

Whilst sounding similar melody wise, Black Spirit shows a different side of the band vocally. Stefano’s vocals take a rougher turn here and that suits the track very well.

Reading into lyrics such as “please tell me how can I forget you” and “incapable to find rest, to heal my bleeding wounds”, I interpret The Life You Left Behind to be about breaking ties with a toxic individual. This track is incredibly powerful as behind these poignant lyrics, the music displays sadness and anger. I have spoken about being in a romantic relationship with someone toxic years ago and this song perfectly displays each of the emotions one might feel.

From the title, I was expecting some sort of nautical theme in Castaways. I was not disappointed. The thunderous riffs and drums perfectly create the image of a ship in the heart of the storm where the crew are desperately trying to keep it on course. This music is perfect for the lyrics about those times where it feels like all hope is lost and there is no way out. WITHIN TEMPATION heavily come to mind with this track.

The start of Brighter Days brings one of KAMELOT’s latest album tracks to mind. It lures you in for the rest of the track. This is the counterpart to previous track; this is someone coming to bring you on the right track to tell you everything will be alright. Through the music, you can hear hope and encouragement that things will get better. The rest of the melody brings the opening track of Kingdom Hearts II to mind.

As the title (R)evolution suggests, you will be wanting to make an impact and make sure everyone knows about it. The pumping riffs and commanding vocal work will make you stand to attention. Lyrics such “we can’t pretend” and “we can’t give up the fight” uphold this powerful track and will ensure those fists and rock horns are raised in the air. This track brings BEYOND THE BLACK to mind.

The title Forbidden Desire suggests this looks into wanting something you can’t have. This is backed up in the lyrics. Examples of these lyrics include “I’m drifting more and more into my obsession” and “I know it’s wrong in so many ways but I can’t help myself”.

Event Horizon – Gravity is an instrumental that brings Stranger Things to mind and lets you know that it’s not over yet.

Event Horizon – Entropy is the last full-length track of the album. Both melody and lyrics are incredibly empowering and inspiring. It looks into the fact we are human; we all make mistakes and do things we shouldn’t. What makes us is what we choose to do with those mistakes, do we carry on making them and not take responsibility or do we learn from them? As it explains in the song, it gives you the full picture of who you are.

Event Horizon – Singularity is the last in the trilogy of tracks that’s just come. It allows you to reflect on what has happened whilst wanting to experience another round.

Event Horizon is a solid album that will please long-time fans and intrigue new listeners a like. SINHERESY are one of the freshest bands out there with a solid sound and this album is concrete proof.
