Dominum – Hey Living People
It’s been a slow start getting back into Rock Out Stand Out; usually after the festive period, I am pretty much ready to go. Due to a hectic time over this period and lots of stuff happening afterwards both good and bad, it’s great to be writing again and getting out of my head. Tonsilitis stopped me from doing an Album Of The Month post for January but I am ready this month and it’s a good album.
DOMINUM are a relatively new band and just before 2023 ended, they released their debut album Hey Living People. Hey Living People is a fantastic mix of all the best parts of anything under the melodic metal and hard rock all meshed into one. Let me explain a bit further by delving into my favourite tracks on the album.
Patient Zero has been on loop since it played whilst listening to the album. The way it starts it’s already intriguing with an almost oriental sound and the rest of the song offers up a melody that would not be out of place on an ORDEN OGAN album. The reason I say this is because of the flawless harmonies in the chorus.
One thing I noticed quite quickly was the band’s talent for song writing. In We All Taste The Same, you can hear it clear as day. The uplifting and empowering music alongside the powerful vocal work are absolutely perfect for these dark and morbid lyrics about eating a torso with fries whilst topping it off with a brain.
If BEAST IN BLACK went a bit darker with their music, The Chosen Ones would give you a rough idea on what that would sound like. This is down to the similar beats and synth melodies; not that’s a bad thing.
I was starting to feel the imposter syndrome and burnout from the end of 2022 coming back recently. Hey Living People helped bring that motivation back due to it’s brilliant array of melodies; ones where I can use empowering and morbid in the same sentence. That’s how intriguing DOMINUM are.
Hey Living People is a solid debut that is already gaining the band attention and recognition for their talent. If you like the bands I mention in this post, I recommend giving them a listen.
