SINGLE REVIEW: Runereader – The Rising North

It’s been over a month since new project RUNEREADER released their debut single On Your Battered Altar; its brilliant mesh of sounds has understandably gotten people intrigued. You can read the single review for that here.

The runes have been cast again and a new single is on it’s way to us. I don’t want to give too much away with regards to RUNEREADER’s sound as the beauty of it is to expect the unexpected. What I will tell you is that it’s already very different sounding to On Your Battered Altar.

Imagine a backing track from an eighties movie, then add some atmospheric black metal ambience sound effects; the kind that keep you on your toes. There is also a prevailing chorus that wouldn’t be out of place on an AMON AMARTH track. You’re reading this description and are either wondering what that would sound like or sceptical on whether those sounds would fit. It’s put together brilliantly, RUNEREADER makes it work. I mentioned in my last single review about how extremely catchy their music is. This one had me lip syncing the chorus on the first listen.

Whether you have joined the clan of RUNEREADER followers from hearing On Your Battered Altar or if you’re hearing about RUNEREADER for the very first time through this review and are mildly intrigued, check out the single which will be released this Friday and stay tuned for updates.
