Roll up, come one, come all, you are all cordially invited. What’s the invitation for I hear you ask? It’s Ghosted; the eighth studio album from spooky, happy Power Metal troupe TRICK OR TREAT. Ghosted is a show you don’t want to be missing and I am here to tell you more. So get comfy and let me explain.
It wastes no time luring you in with atmospheric opening Lost In The Haunted House; this gives off strong influences from Danny Elfman, particularly for the opening theme of Netflix show Wednesday. You know you’re in for a devilishly good time within the opening notes of this opening track. It transitions flawlessly to the first full track Craven Road; ever wondered what would happen if HELLOWEEN led TWILIGHT FORCE down the spooky path? Craven Road gives you a rough idea on what that would sound like. The track showcases a great mix of the best parts of both bands whilst giving us a taste from the 80s.
Each of the singles create enough anticipation on their own on what the album upholds. I was already humming the melody of Bloodmoon after only a few listens, Adrienne McGowan’s vast vocal range added to this great track. The KAMELOT type vibes in Ghosted ensured that melody was swimming in my head for days.
The devilishly delightful sounds of Dance With The Dancing Clown is the latest addition to my list of the greatest earworms of all time, you know, the ones that just pop up in your head at the most random times. The scene featuring Chilly Down in Labyrinth strongly came to mind due to similar sounding tunes and the mischief going on. Sometimes there is that worry of the singles being the only great ones on the album, this is not the case with this record.
Return To Monkey Island takes a very ALESTORM-esque approach – well given Chris Bowes provides his vocals that’s logical really. This track is great fun and takes a break from the spooky goings on for those few minutes. It’s also on my list for the greatest earworms of all time – yes, it’s that catchy.
Polybius is that track that will have every Power Metal fan rejoicing and clutching the air. The melody is fantastic and triumphant that will uplift those souls, even the ones who have the toughest of times. The 80s-like sounds that remind me of the platform games and films were great touches to this track.
Speaking of empowering and uplifting, Make A Difference also falls under this category. If MAJESTICA and SONATA ARCTICA were to collaborate, this should give you a rough idea on what that would sound like. In particular, the song Replica comes to mind when listening to this song; this is due to the similar sounding melodies. The uplifting tones in this track will ensure this track will go down a treat at live shows.
It ends on a spooky note with Bitter Dreams that took influences from A Nightmare On Elm Street; the moment you know that, you can hear that within the music that sounds like a sinister lullaby and even includes the famous chant that is heard within the film. This song gives off an eerie vibe as if you don’t know whether it’s finally over, it leaves you feeling on edge which is a very interesting take.
Ghosted is a devilishly delightful release that keeps you on your toes and yet you will have a great time experiencing the twists and turns it offers up. Whether you are an avid fan or a brand new listener like myself, there is something for everyone to enjoy here.
