Rock Out Stand Out’s Top Ten Albums (10-6)

So 2017 is drawing to a close and there have been some worthy releases this year. Narrowing them down to a top ten was no easy feat but these records made the cut for this year. So I bring you, my top ten albums of 2017. Here is the first half.

10. Alestorm – No Grave But The Sea

Arrrghh me hearties! The Scottish Metal Pirates ALESTORM are back and they released the tale of their latest quest No Grave But The Sea. This fun album is kicking off Rock Out Stand Out’s top ten albums of the year. As well as their pirate antics, ALESTORM have produced a solid discography over the years and this latest endeavour is no exception. With a collection of pirate tunes such as Mexico, Pegleg Potion and the new anthem Fucked With An Anchor, it’s no wonder the album has been praised from fans and critics alike.

9. King Leviathan – Paean Herectica

Since their formation in 2014, Brighton based KING LEVIATHAN have become solid favourites for some of the best underground Metal festivals in the country and including a spot on the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock in 2015. This is their first full length album and it is a collection of material that will provide an uplift in your energy and unpredictability as you don’t know what could be coming up next within the melodies. Tracks such as Coffin Swallower, Doomsayer and Kingdom will convert you into their cult and ensure you worship the old gods.

8. Wind Rose – Stonehymn

They have been described as Dwarf Metal and from listening to this heroic album it’s easy to see why. WIND ROSE hail from Italy and since the release of their first album in 2012 their career has flourished. They have shared the stage with the likes of WINTERSUN, EPICA and ENSIFERUM. Their latest album Stonehym is a fantastic collection of fantasy laiden tracks that sound dominant and grand. Tracks such as Dance Of Fire, Fallen Timbers and the mighty single To Erebor will bring out that inner fantasy nerd with their folk like instruments and their songs telling tales of lands not of this world.

7. Angel Nation – Aeon

Translated from ENKELINATION, ANGEL NATION released their latest album Aeon. This was an anticipated released after the release of their debut three years earlier. The album opens with the stunning single Burn The Witch that entices the listener in to find out more. This is a very solid album that contains some more than memorable tracks, no song sounds the same but they all contain a great melody structure. Enough Is Enough, Wonder Who You Are and the striking stripped-down Music Plays are just a few examples of this.

6. Ensiferum – Two Paths

The Finnish Folk Metal warriors ENSIFERUM marked their return in a more than gallant way with the release of Two Paths. Not only does it contain a selection of heroic tracks such as Way Of The Warrior, Feast With Valkyries and Hail To The Victor; it contains alternative versions of a couple of the tracks. Don’t You Say and God Is Dead can be heard in both clean and harsh vocals; which will be a good thing at live shows when it comes to choosing which one you’d prefer to hear.

That is the first half of my top ten albums, stay tuned for the second half and reveal my number one album this year.
