As promised, here is the second half of the Reader’s Choice article.
Ryan Smith (The Outlaw Orchestra)
It’s a conventional song you normally would associate with summer. I was going out with someone from Brixton and we had been going out for about six months. She had bought a ticket to see Slayer at Brixton Academy and I was getting absolutely drunk in this park outside Brixton Academy. Honestly it was one of the best gigs I have ever been to and I just remember Angel Of Death being one of my favourite songs.
Steven Speck (27 Days)
For me if I was still driving a convertable on a Route 666 type road, it would be Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi.
Ollie Tindall (The Wicked Jackals)
Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd. As soon as you hear that you can pretty much feel the sun hit you and you wanna drink, for me that’s the ultimate summertime song.
Martin W
Burnin’ For You by Blue Oyster Cult always reminds of Summer and has done for many years but would like to submit Iced Earth’s version which I recently stumbled across instead!
Beth Blade (Beth Blade And The Beautiful Disasters)
Album of the summer last year was Prequel by Ghost, I spent all summer listening to that. I also listened Blackstone Cherry’s Family Tree and Hailstone Vicious. Summer Breeze (makes me feel fine).
Pete Briley (The Outlaw Orchestra)
I think Iron & Wine’s He Lays In The Reins and it’s a beautiful song with a mariachy singer in it, wonderful pedal steel. It’s by Iron & Wine and Calexico together, it was the first record they did. It talks about a stable girl and he lays in the reins.
Marty Venus (The Wicked Jackals)
For me it’s Sammy Hagar, I Can’t Drive 55.
Clémentine Delauney (Visions Of Atlantis)
It’s a difficult question. During summer, I don’t go on holidays because of touring. I would say ironically Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray. I like the singer and for a long time I didn’t like summer.
So that’s it for this Reader’s Choice. What songs would you have picked? Stay tuned for the announcement of the next topic for Reader’s Choice.
