Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t gotten off to the best start. From extreme storms to virus outbreaks, it’s so far been full of uncertainty. In times like this, we need something to help us escape and make us feel better about things, even if it’s for a short period of time. Comedy and laughter personally help me with this so Don Jamieson’s latest record Denim And Laughter couldn’t have come at a better time.
Don Jamieson is best known for being co-host of That Metal Show that featured some house hold names in rock and metal. Alice Cooper and Ozzy Osbourne are just a couple that appeared on the show. Denim And Laughter was recorded in a secret location in Los Angeles to forty hardcore fans and rest of us are now able to enjoy this.
Even though I have watched stand-up comedians on stage and on TV, I haven’t listened to an album from a stand-up comedian before so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. This was also my first experience listening to Don Jamieson so this was brand new territory for me.
Denim And Laughter has converted me to a fan. I was laughing from the moment I pressed play on this album. Especially after hearing the line “Craft beer is fertiliser for a man bun.” during the opening track Drinking Buddy, Hipster Jizz & Gluten Free Keith R. That’s a line I will not be forgetting anytime soon.
Through the duration of the record, I went from shaking in silent giggles to laughing out loud. From talking about stories of being high and speaking to a Yankee Candle to rock bands, Don covers a wide variety of topics on this record. My personal favourite tracks on this record were Tea Tree Shampoo & Adam Levine’s Nipples and Black Sabbath, Gwar & A Bloody Good Flight.
I enjoyed listening to the stories and jokes from Tea Tree Shampoo & Adam Levine’s Nipples. In particular Don using the lyrics of a popular song to create a sidesplitting joke. I won’t say too much here, it’s up to you to listen to the album and find out what that is.
Black Sabbath, Gwar & A Blood Good Show also included an engaging story. Anyone who has seen GWAR or any band that are theatrical when performing live will appreciate this engaging story. Let’s just say that fake blood is involved with this story. That’s all I am going to say, you will have to listen to the album to find out the rest.
It closes triumphantly with Fake News & The Return Of The Sporty Fusion. This section contains an empowering message that will fill you with a sense of taking on anything that comes your way. No-one and nothing is safe from Don and his humour. Everything and everyone gets equally roasted. Denim And Laughter is a must have for fans of both comedy and heavy metal.
Warning: Not for the feint hearted or the easily offended.
