Have you ever felt so immersed into something that you can’t focus on anything else? This is the experience I felt when listening to Reign, the latest single from TRIBE OF GHOSTS. The first thing I noticed is how different it is to their single previous single Cold; already this shows me that you can’t pigeonhole TRIBE OF GHOSTS into one genre box.
From the word go, Reign sucks you into this atmospheric masterpiece of misery and despair; where TRIBE OF GHOSTS are concerned, this is a glowing compliment. There seems to be more of straight-forward melody in this track and takes a more progressive approach.
You hear more of Beccy Blaker’s haunting vocals in this track which I personally admired as she did a great job in previous single Cold. You hear more of her versatile range in this track and the techniques she uses in different parts of the melody work perfectly; in particular when it calls for an ethereal approach or an eerie take. Speaking of vocals, Adam Sedgewick displays his clean vocals as well as his growls; I was already aware of his vast vocal range in his work with KING LEVIATHAN, they really shine here. Alongside the sombre and immersive music arrangements, these all work flawlessly to create this work of art.
Both singles may sound different but they both grab your attention and keep you on your toes. Their sound is not for background noise, it needs your undivided attention. They are due to make their major festival debut in a month’s time and if you like what you hear from them so far, I highly recommend you catch them live.
